The last entry in Charlotte’s diary talks about a secret she’s keeping and that it is killing her to keep it. But she did and now Sue – who is Charlotte’s mum, needs to figure out why as she doesn’t think it was an accident. Nobody would’ve thought that she would try to kill herself by stepping in front of a bus. The book starts by introducing a comatose Charlotte, who for all intents and purposes seemed like a happy teenage girl. But what if she is the real reason Charlotte is in danger? Sue will do anything to protect her daughter. In her hunt to discover the truth, Sue begins to mistrust everyone close to her and is compelled to delve into the murky depths of her own past. Retracing her daughter’s steps she finds a horrifying entry in Charlotte’s diary and is forced to head deep into her daughter’s private world. Sue Jackson has the perfect family but when her teenage daughter Charlotte deliberately steps in front of a bus and ends up in a coma she has to face a very dark reality. The characters are explored in really clever ways and the unknown twists that the novel takes is fantastic. The Accident was described as ‘A rollercoaster of suspense with multiple twists’ so I had to read it! I’m also immensely glad that I did, I absolutely loved it. C.L Taylor isn’t an author I’m familiar with, but I loved the covers and the blurbs of her books.
